This article discusses and speculates on the upcoming release schedule for Warhammer, based on previous releases from Games Workshop and current news and rumours.
Games Workshop have announced their next preview, the Big Autumn Warhammer Preview for Friday 18 September at 7pm BST. It follows the Big Summer Preview, which marks Games Workshop’s continued move away from doing preview shows at events. Between rumours and hints from GW, we have some idea about what to expect, so below are our best guesses.
Warhammer 40,000
They have confirmed we will be getting the next codex previewed, and the current rumours point to Adeptus Custodes. Model-wise, the rumours are of a new character, and we’ve already seen the leaked Aquilon Terminators. For the Terminators, it’s not clear if these will be shown off as part of the 40k reveals or the 30k reveals. It’s also possible we’ll see a new box set, such as a combat patrol.
Age of Sigmar
From the rumours and the leaks, it’s clear we are getting an all-new duardin faction, the Khazalite Holds. The teaser miniature is a Gholem of Gazul.
I imagine we’ll see a release box set with the Gholems, troops and a hero, similar to what other ranges have got. How much else will be revealed is unclear, as, with the recent Ogor release, we had some revealed at the show and others revealed in articles over the following few weeks.
Horus Heresy
It is unclear what is being previewed for Heresy. As discussed, it’s possible we are getting the Aquilon Terminators here, though hopefully we get something more. Other than the Custodes banana hint, there is nothing else that points to Heresy in the teaser. The other possibility is the rumoured Warhound Titan, but that seems like a much bigger deal, possibly getting its own preview show later on. They did mention “needing a bigger brush” though, so it is possible they will announce this monster kit, especially if they want to get ahead of the rumours.
Warhammer The Old World
The “Nehek 4 Life” teaser is clear: we are going to get refreshed Tomb Kings. We’ll likely see new chariots; how much else they show off, we’ll have to see.
Kill Team
They said we are getting a new Kill Team. The flaming skull, plus rumours, indicate Legion of the Damned. Whether these will be vs the new Ork Nobz is another question. I would hope we see the new season box shown off as well, as, following previous patterns, we should be getting two teams and new terrain. However, GW have been changing up the format of the Kill Team boxes recently, with Devlan and the Exodites.
Necromunda
With the new edition just out, there are few rumours for Necromunda; however, the teaser of a Corpse Starch tin implies Corpse Grinder Cults.
Blood Bowl
There will be a new Blood Bowl team, but it is unclear what it will be. Possibly the squigs are the hint in the teaser, and we’ll get a Night Goblin team.
Warhammer Quest
Again, it’s unclear what the expansion will be. Previous Warhammer Quest expansions have been mixed, some with new models, some with old, some with none. For it to be in the preview, I would imagine there will be some new models to show.
Warhammer+
It seems we’ll be getting a reveal for Astartes 2, based on the teaser. It has been in the works for a long time, so hopefully it lives up to the hype.
Paints
It’s suspected we’ll get an announcement about the new Pro paint range from Games Workshop, again linking into the painting teaser. It’s unclear exactly what that means, but there have been a large number of entries into the paint sector recently, so it doesn’t surprise us that GW are offering more options. The rumour is they’ll be in dropper bottles and aimed at more experienced painters.
Final word
With almost every game system covered, hopefully there is something for you to be excited about at this preview. There were 61 products shown off at the last Warhammer preview, so we should expect a similar number this time. This will likely be Games Workshop’s last preview show of the year.
