FAQ

What do Previewed, Upcoming, and Preorder mean?

Previewed means Games Workshop has revealed the kit, but has not announced a preorder date. Upcoming is next Saturday’s preorder wave. Preorder means you can buy it now on the Warhammer webstore and at participating independent stockists. Once a product hits general release it leaves this tracker and is listed on the Released page, grouped by the Saturday it became available.

How does the Games Workshop weekly release schedule work?

Warhammer Community’s Sunday Preview names what is going up for preorder the following Saturday. Those preorders open Saturday morning and run for two weeks. On the Saturday two weeks later, the products move to general release and usually stay in the range. Seasonal dumps such as the Big Summer Preview, AdeptiCon, and Christmas battleforces reveal many kits at once, which are then released over the following months.

When do Warhammer preorders go live?

Standard weekly preorders open at 10:00 UK time on Saturday on warhammer.com, and at participating independent stockists and Warhammer stores as they open. Local store times vary by country. Popular boxes such as new edition launches, battleforces, and campaign sets can sell out on the webstore in minutes, so a local stockist is often the more reliable way to get one.

How long do Warhammer preorders last?

A normal weekly preorder lasts two weeks. If a product goes up on Saturday 1 August, it is generally released on Saturday 15 August, after which you can usually buy it without a preorder. Limited runs, made-to-order Forge World pieces, Warhammer+ subscriber miniatures, and some value boxes use shorter or one-off windows instead.

Are the dates on Release Hammer preorder dates or release dates?

Release dates. For a standard weekly product, the date is the Saturday it leaves preorder and becomes generally available, two weeks after the preorder Saturday. If Upcoming shows Saturday 15 August, that kit preorders on Saturday 1 August. Current preorders are grouped on the tracker under the Saturday they release. Previewed items usually have no date until Sunday Preview confirms the weekend.

Which Games Workshop games does Release Hammer track?

Anything that gets regular Warhammer Community coverage: Warhammer 40,000, Age of Sigmar, Horus Heresy, Kill Team, Necromunda, Blood Bowl, The Old World, Middle-earth, and other specialist games when they have an active wave. Use the filter at the top, or the system links in the menu, to show one range. Kits tagged to more than one game appear in each of those filters. Status tabs jump between Previewed, Upcoming, and Preorder.

Is Release Hammer official? Where do the dates come from?

No, this is an independent tracker, not affiliated with Games Workshop. Names, images, and dates are compiled from official Warhammer Community articles and related GW announcements, and each card links back to the source. We update entries as they move from preview, to the next preorder weekend, to the live preorder window.

Do battleforces, made-to-order, and Warhammer+ miniatures follow the same schedule?

Often not. Made-to-order and Forge World kits have their own order windows. Warhammer+ miniatures are usually a limited subscriber drop rather than a normal retail preorder. If a product is unusual, the linked Warhammer Community article is the source of truth.

Are Christmas battleforces and other value boxes limited?

Often, yes. Christmas battleforces and other value boxes may never return to general release once they sell out. They still appear on this tracker during that window, then move to the Released page on the Saturday they were due out, even if the webstore listing has already gone. Made-to-order kits and Warhammer+ miniatures are similarly one-off.

How much do you save with battleforces and other value boxes?

It varies, but Christmas battleforces and similar value boxes usually come in at about a third off buying the kits separately at Games Workshop RRP. Combat Patrols, Spearheads, and army boxes are typically a smaller saving, often around 20–25%. Those figures are RRP comparisons only. Independent stockists may be cheaper still, and the numbers get fuzzier when a box includes a new kit that is not sold on its own yet.

Why is a kit still Previewed when people already have the miniature?

Some miniatures first appear in a combo product such as a Kill Team box, army set, or similar and only later as a standalone kit. We record the box and the individual kit as two separate releases. The box can be generally available, and people may already own the model, while the standalone kit stays Previewed until Games Workshop announces its own preorder.

Why do some previewed products have no release date?

Games Workshop often shows models weeks or months before they put them on the schedule. Big seasonal previews dump a lot of kits that then dribble out through Sunday Preview. A product stays Previewed here until an announcement names the preorder weekend. Specialist-game kits in particular can sit in that state for a long time. A missing date means it is not confirmed yet, not that we forgot it.
